I was recently contacted by photographer Ricardo Gomes, and upon visiting his blog I was captivated by his utilization of dramatic poses and expressive body language. His images possess a dynamic sense of movement, and the surroundings play an integral role in the composition and psyche of the image.
The Portuguese photographer was born in Madeira Island but currently lives and works in Lisbon. Ricardo has been doing professional photography for three years. He told Homotography that fashion photography was always something that fascinated and interested him. He particularly enjoys the interaction with the models and building characters.. turning something simple into something complex really excites him.
Another aspect of Ricardo’s photography is his quest to create a bond between the models, their expressions, and the set of the shoot. “Everything has to be full of expression!,” explains Ricardo.
“I have several visual references from photographers such as Steven Klein, Hedi Slimane, Mariano Vivanco, Matt Irwin, and obviously Mario Testino,” Ricardo told us. What about models? He says, “I'm inspired by Cole Mohr and Lara Stone. And as for designers, I really admire Alexander Wang, Gareth Pugh, Balenciaga, and John Galliano, among others.” But it’s not only fashion and photographers that inspire Ricardo. He said that everything that surrounds him inspires him: from his own life experience and the people around him to the most insignificant subject or idea.
