I recently watched this brilliant movie, Dream Boy, a look at the tragic life of a young boy in a rural town in Louisiana in the late 70s. Based on a novel by Jim Grimsley and directed by James Bolton, the bittersweet movie follows an innocent young love that starts to bloom between two boys discovering their own sexuality in the midst of a dark atmosphere that involves parental sexual abuse, homophobia, rape, and murder. I give this movie two big thumbs up. It’s a shame that it was not released in the USA, (it was only released in Germany in December, 2008). Even the DVD is only available on Amazon in the European non-USA format, so make sure your DVD player can play it before buying a copy. You can check out a video of some scenes from Dream Boy set to the song Lullaby by Dixie Chicks below.
