Patti Smith & Robert Mapplethorpe, Just Kids

Released earlier this year, the book Just Kids [ US | UK ] by Patti Smith is a fulfillment of a promise she gave to legendary photographer and close friend Robert Mapplethorpe before he died… that she would tell their story.

According to the book’s product description, Just Kids is the story of two innocents who shed sheltered lives and braved the city in search of art and freedom. In each other Robert Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith found kindred spirits and pursued their mutual dreams, from Brooklyn to the Chelsea Hotel into the world… Intimate and broadly evocative of New York in the early 70s, Just Kids - part romance, part elegy - is finally about friendship in the truest sense, and the artist's calling.”

The featured images are by Norman Seeff and Judy Linn. They accompanied an interview with Patti Smith by Christopher Bollen that was published in Interview magazine earlier this year.
