Into the MDNA Groove

After enjoying Madonna’s new album ‘MDNA’ over the past month, the title of its third track would perfectly summarize my review of it. I’m Addicted. But this is not a review. This is a love letter from an excited fanboy. I will be attending Madonna’s concert next month, thanks to an invitation by our affiliate Luisa Via Roma to their blogging event Firenze4Ever. You see, Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’ was the first album I ever bought. It was a rather strange choice for a little Syrian boy with limited English vocabulary to spend his allowance on. But there was something about Madonna that spoke to me. Growing up in a society where sexuality is not spoken of, let alone tolerated. A place with no telephone help lines for questioning youth, during a time before the Internet opened up the whole world. Madonna was that voice that spoke to me with messages of self-acceptance, self-expression and self-love. The genius of Madonna is that under the guise of pop music, she was able to break boundaries and reach people across the world with profound messages of love and hope. So dear Madonna, pending my visa approval, look for one very happy fan in your Florence concert next month. (Images by Mert & Marcus for the MDNA album artwork)
