The Charitable Digital Death of Celebrities

Daphne Guinness

Artists and celebrities including Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Daphne Guinness, Janelle MonĂ¡e, David LaChapelle, Elijah Wood, Kim Kardashian, Justin Timberlake, The Buried Life, Jay Sean, Swiss Beatz and Serena Williams are giving away their life to raise awareness about AIDS. Their digital social life, that is.

Elijah Wood

In commemoration of World AIDS Day 2010, which is today, these artists will die online. No Facebook, no twitter, no new music or photos. The death will go on until $1 Million has been donated to the AIDS charity Keep a Child Alive. Go to Buy Life to donate for this very worthy cause and bring your favorite artist back to digital life.

David LaChapelle brings his fantastic over the top touch to the new Maybach ad campaign with the one and only Daphne Guinness. Killer Jeans Ads Pack The Hotties

I’m loving these Killer Jeans ads from India. The ads promote their slim denim design by squeezing a bunch of hot guys and girls into limited spaces. Hey, sometimes we gotta suffer to look good :) The photography is by Prasad Naik.

Our reader Daniel  reminded me of the striking resemblance of these ads to the below image by David LaChapelle featuring Joel West back in 1995.

Michael Jackson Portrait by David LaChapelle

David LaChapelle pays tribute to Michael Jackson with a new image portrait that shows the late King of Pop as a modern-day martyr. The image is part of a trilogy  inspired by Mexican saint cards.

“I don’t think he was capable of hurting anyone. I think there’s something really biblical about what happened," explains David LaChapelle of Michael Jackson’s life and pedophilia accusations. “His lyrics are so naive and so beautiful. It’s one of the most epic stories of our time, to go from such heights to such depths. He’s a modern-day martyr.”

The famous celebrity photographer has always wanted to capture Michael, but it never happened, “Photographers weren’t nice to him. He got scared.” LaChapelle used a young Jackson lookalike for this portrait, which was shot in Hawaii. The devil in red was played by a friend of LaChapelle, a performer in Cirque du Soliel.

The image debuted today in the Sunday Times Magazine. We thank our reader Daniel for sending the scans and info.

The Celebrity Faces of David LaChapelle

David LaChapelle is famous for his surreal photography and elaborate images that transfer you into a fantasy world. But aside from the complexity, shine and glitter, LaChapelle has a rare talent in capturing intimate celebrity portraits that feel like a peek into their soul. Here is a look at some of my favorite LaChapelle celebrity face photography.
