The Charitable Digital Death of Celebrities

Daphne Guinness

Artists and celebrities including Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Daphne Guinness, Janelle MonĂ¡e, David LaChapelle, Elijah Wood, Kim Kardashian, Justin Timberlake, The Buried Life, Jay Sean, Swiss Beatz and Serena Williams are giving away their life to raise awareness about AIDS. Their digital social life, that is.

Elijah Wood

In commemoration of World AIDS Day 2010, which is today, these artists will die online. No Facebook, no twitter, no new music or photos. The death will go on until $1 Million has been donated to the AIDS charity Keep a Child Alive. Go to Buy Life to donate for this very worthy cause and bring your favorite artist back to digital life.

World AIDS Day 2009

Even though we hear about it much less than we should, AIDS is still a very big deal. As the above Love Life, Stop AIDS ad from 2006 shows, you have to protect yourself when you play.  In commemoration of World AIDS Day 2009, we invite you to take a look at some of our previous AIDS related features. How Many Condoms Have You Used?

Safe sex advertising doesn’t always have to be about doom and gloom. French magazine TĂªtu, in collaboration with advertising agency FullSIX, uses the playful concept of ‘bragging about your conquests’ in these new ads. Above we have young Kevin, ecstatic about using his first condom. And below we have Odette, the grannie who’s had the pleasure of 13,874 encounters with a condom!

The stud of the campaign, however, is Louis, with a whopping total of 14,123. Now, how many condoms have you used?

AIDS is a Mass Murderer

I gotta say that safe sex advertising has been getting quite racy and shocking recently, from angels watching you do it, to visual orgies. However, Germany takes the shock factor up a notch with this new campaign "AIDS is a mass murderer." The campaign promotes safe sex in anticipation of the upcoming World AIDS Day 2009. It is designed by Regenbogen e.V. in conjunction with the advertising agency das comitee. Some of the world’s most infamous tyrants such as Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein and Josef Stalin make a (poorly Photoshopped) cameo in the ads.  There is also a video ad, which is as provocative and racy as the prints, so watch with care.

Are You Sleeping With The Past?

I’m loving these new Canadian ads for AIDS awareness by One Life. The message is driven home with the eye-catching visuals and the copy, “Each time you sleep with someone, you also sleep with his past.”

The ads were photographed by Alain Desjean for ad agency Bleublancrouge, Montréal, Canada. You can get more info at One Life.

As a bonus, here are two safe sex commercials from last year, one is rather morbid and one is damn funny.

Stockholm Promotes Safe Sex With Cheating Ads

I love this cheeky safe sex ad campaign by Lafa (The Stockholm County Aids Prevention Program). Lafa distributed 100,000 free condoms in Stockholm with each condom having a unique number (from no.1 to 100,000). There is an accompanying blog where people can share the story of how they used that condom. The campaign also used cheeky ads which showed how the condoms can be used (a new husband having sex with his best man at the wedding, above, and the waiter screwing the man’s wife at a hotel, below)

MTV Goes For The Bush in New Staying Alive Ads

The showed us the sexual history of Madonna in one of their Staying Alive safe sex campaigns, and used retro porn images in another. Now, MTV is going down there and using pubic hair illustrations to showcase that when you have unprotected sex with people “Some might stay forever” with you. They do that by creating the illusion of pubic hair with the names of the different people you slept with.

The ads come from Belgium with photography by Pablo Vicente and Illustration by Bram Laebens.

Angels Watching People Do It!

Let’s see what we have here: two sexy guys having sex. Cool. Wait… there’s an Angel watching them. What the fuck?!?

Easy tiger, it’s the latest safe sex campaign ‘AIDS Hilfe Wien’ in Austria. When you wear a condom, it’s like the angels watching over you and protecting you. ok? The ads were photographed by Oliver Gast for ad agency PKP with art direction by Daniela Reichmann and creative direction by Roman Sindelar & Erich Enzenberger.
